I love coming to people for their newborn session!
Having a child myself, while also spending most of my life caring for other children, I understand how much of a hassle it can be to get out of the house. There's so much to pack especially if you have multiple little ones. The diapers, wipes, extra clothes, gas medicine, bottles, pacifier just to name a few. Add on the cups, snacks and toys for siblings, a change of clothes for yourself in case you get peed or pooped on, and it becomes overwhelming just thinking about it. I know that I avoided going out of the house if it wasn't necessary and I have known people that didn't get newborn photos done because they didn't want to go out.
When I decided I wanted to offer in home newborn sessions back in 2018, I know I wasn't the one who started the idea. However, at the time it was not a common option and I thought it would be perfect for me to offer since I really wanted to focus on how I could give my clients an experience that really catered to them.
The feedback since doing this has been great! I get told by every client that they are so glad I come to them.
Newborn sessions can take a long time (90 minutes-3 or 4 hours) depending on what the client wants, the cooperation of the baby and siblings if there are any and how big the family is. While I'm focused on just newborn photos, the parents can do any work, if necessary, laundry, cooking, playing with their other children, watch tv etc. They're at home so they can do whatever they want and be comfortable. Other children can go down for a nap if needed etc.
I've had sessions where parents changed their mind last minute what they wanted themselves or their children to wear and they could do that because we're at their home. They can get my opinion on outfit options since I'm there to see them all better in person. I've also had last minute prop/blanket additions like when I find something I really like in the home that we can incorporate.
Most of the time I use the home as the backdrop for family images which makes it even more special since it's where your baby's life is starting. We can even do a mix of that along with some solid backdrop shots.
I do bring backdrops, lighting, props, swaddles, headbands, hats etc. for every session so don't worry about anything other than what you are going to wear (I've got baby covered)
There are so many great reasons to have your newborn session done in your home. I'd love to be the photographer that comes to you and creates images you love with moments to cherish forever.
