Studio Newborn Photo Shoot Frequently Asked Questions- St. Louis-Missouri

If you are considering a newborn photo session in St. Louis Missouri, you probably have some questions! I’m Brittani, the owner and photographer at Moments to Cherish Portrait Photography. I want to make sure that you are not left with uncertainty when booking your studio newborn photos.

When is the best time to book?

The absolute best time to book is while you are in your 2nd or 3rd trimester of pregnancy. Yes, you read that right! Newborn sessions are best done pretty soon after birth if you want the sweet sleepy photos. I’ve found the sweet spot is between 1-3 weeks old. We take a limited number of newborn sessions per month so that’s why you don’t want to wait until baby is born to book.

Another perk of booking your newborn session while pregnant is that we have more time to plan. Maybe you need time to think about colors and themes you might want. We might need time to order things specially for your session.

All of this does not mean that I won’t book you if your baby has already arrived. It is just a risky move because I may not be available or have many time options available to you, causing us to have the session much later than you might prefer.

What should my baby wear?

You don’t have to worry about outfits for baby! Whether you choose to have an in home session or studio session, outfits, swaddles, hats, bonnets and headbands are all provided! We get all of these items from vendors that cater specifically to newborn photographers.

What should parents and siblings wear?

I encourage simple outfits without graphics and wording. Color coordinate and if you aren’t sure if something works, feel free to send me your outfit ideas so that I can give my input! When in doubt, neutral is always best!

How long does a newborn photo session last?

How long your photo session lasts depends on many factors. Some sessions may want family included and some may not. It will also depend on the cooperation of baby and cooperation of siblings if they are involved. Some babies are fussier than others and that’s ok! I am willing to take all the time we need to make sure baby is comfortable. Stopping for diaper changes and feeding is totally normal. This is why a newborn photo session can take anywhere from 90 minutes to 3 hours.

Does that all sound like too much for you? New in 2026 we are offering petite newborn sessions. They are for in studio sessions only and have a time limit of 40 minutes for just baby and 1 hour if we include family. These sessions are only done on white, and we move along with the session if baby is awake as long as they are not fussy.

How many photos do I get and how do I get them?

How many images you receive will depend on what you choose! You get to build your own collection by choosing a set of digital images (10, 20, 30), a wall portrait, and either an album or additional print items. We know every family has different needs and wants, so customizing your own collection is a sure way to get everything you are hoping for.

Petite sessions offer digital images only included in your upfront cost. 5 images for baby only and 7 images if we include family. Additional digitals and prints are available.

When will I get my photos?

After your session, we will schedule an ordering appointment where you can view and choose your favorite images. This typically takes place about a week after your session, but I am open to the idea of same day choosing if you are interested! After images are chosen and paid for, you receive them within 2 weeks. I will personally deliver them to your home, or you may pick them up from mine.
